Final Portfolio-Reflection
So the beginning of the semester was pretty rough. I absolutely hated doing 10-a-days and I never really put the effort needed to get a great piece. After midterm, though, we started doing bigger assignments and I really hit my stride. I found I was pretty good at line art and watercolor and so that is what I stuck to mostly. I hit all of the print deadlines on time except for two and I got all assignments approved except for one. All in all, I am still timid when it comes to doing predominantly watercolor or gouache but if I push myself I can get there.
Final Portfolio-Life and Death (Approved)
This might be my favorite piece I made this semester. It's just so freakin fun! I relied less on line art on this one and it turned out really great!
Final Portfolio-Classical Music Cover (Approved)
Again with the line art and watercolor. This one took me awhile to get the line art technique down and I am satisfied with the results.
Final Portfolio-World Record (Approved)
I really love the simplicity of this one. And I obviously continued with the watercolor and line art theme :)
Final Portfolio-Number 9 (Approved)
This is the first assignment that I realized that I am pretty good at line art. I really like how it turned out and the "blood spatter" is pretty sweet!
Society of Illustrators
So this is the only assignment that I didn't get approved. I made it for my roommate to hang in her room and she likes it so that is all that matters!

Holy hell!
So I just finished my life and death and I absolutely LOVE it! Who would have thought that I could do something on the first run and really like the way it turned out. Has Rusty seen it yet? No. Will he probably rip it apart and find something to fix or re-do the whole thing? Probably. Fingers crossed that doesn't happen, I could really use an ok right about now.

Ok, here's the deal.
Not that this is any newsflash or anything, but I am getting SWAMPED now that it is the end of the semester. So in order to cut down on my stress, I am going to give Society of Illustrators a good effort but I don't think I am going to go through the process of getting it approved. I will do it, print it, turn it in and blog it without Rusty's little mark. Scandalous right?! But don't worry, I haven't totally given up on the semester. I will go through the whole approval process with life and death. Because we only need 4 things for our portfolio I am allowed to kind of blow off one assignment, right?
He's ALIVE!!!
So I ended up having to do him twice in order to please Rusty, and I will admit, the final one turned out better than my first attempt. I'm really happy with the colors but I somehow lost the squarishness of his head and features from the comp to the final....but that could be me being too picky.

Frankenstein!!!!
I am so pumped to do this one! I haven't decided if I am gonna stick to watercolor and line art or if I might do gouache or maybe even a digital drawing!
Marker Comp.
Classical Music CD Cover
Here is the final. This turned out alright. I am still enjoying watercolor and line art, but I think I may do something different on the next one (watch out!!!).

World Record
I absolutely love this one!!! At first I wasn't thrilled about illustrating a world record because I thought it was stupid but I think this turned out great! It's simple but effective and I got to utilize line art and water color, which is apparently the only thing that I can do well.

The Number 9
DEXTER! WOO HOO! I really enjoyed doing this one and I think it turned out great. Water color and line art is my thing so I am definitely gonna ride that for as long as I can keep it successful!

3 Image Gouache
This turned out ok. I didn't get the final in on time, but now that I'm used to how theses projects are gonna go I will be more diligent. It turned out a little yellow, but that is probably because I couldn't take the photo in natural light (sucky KVegas weather!).

Midterm Portfolio-#7 (open category)
Well, out of the limited number of things I got approved, I knew I wanted to include them all in my portfolio....and the only other one that was left was my Truman line art illustration. I am actually really proud of this one. It has a lot of detail, the trees look cool, and I also got this one approved on the first pass!
Midterm Portfolio-#6 (Product Illustration)
I got my line art product illustration approved on the first pass, so I naturally included it over my watercolor one.
Midterm Portfolio-#5 (best Facebook illustration)
I got both of my Facebook illustrations approved and I wanted to include them both. I put my other Facebook illustration in my with my watercolors, so I put this one in this category.
Midterm Portfolio-#4 (best digital)
I apparently liked the day I did the line art of my roommate's dog. I chose this one because it was the best digital reproduction I did.
Midterm Portfolio-#3 (2 best line art and watercolor)
There was only one line art and watercolor combo that I thought was good enough to be in my portfolio. I think it was just chance that it turned out OK. The other piece I chose was a watercolor of a person that I later added line to. Actually, I think the line really helped to define it and now it doesn't look half bad.
Midterm Portfolio-#2 (best 10-a-day watercolor and an optional watercolor)
I chose one of the watercolors I did when we had to do 5 people because it was one of the best ones I had. In all honesty, I didn't put much effort into the 10-a-days because I knew they were going to suck, so why waste my time? This one turned out OK, still not the best. And then I chose my Facebook watercolor because it got approved. And what better stuff to put on your portfolio than approved shit? :)
Midterm Portfolio-#1 (2 best line art 10-a-days)
I wanted to show the range of styles/mark making that I experimented with. The one of the chihuahua shows a more "sketchy" style. It was done very quickly with lots of expressive marks. The Windex shows a more deliberate line and high contrast.

Facebook Pic...Not Approved
Super sad face. Rusty told me that I have to do this again....but I wanted to blog the first version. Hopefully a better version to come.
In Class Work
Ok so these don't really fit in the scanner so they are bigger than these pics. Apparently I like painting animals

You're kidding me, right?!
So I was kind of excited that we were going to do such a large scale watercolor because I seem to do better if it's bigger......and then I checked the blog. The topic is Missouri?! What the hell?! That has to be the most boring topic EVER!!! There is nothing remotely entertaining or creative when I think of Missouri.....which makes my job difficult. But I guess I have to get used to creating interesting things with non-interesting topics.....but c'mon Rusty! Really? I may need to work on my watercolor skills but maybe you should work on your "making cool assignment" skills lol. And for your punishment, here is a pic of the Biebs! WOO HOO!

Still pretty bad
I was SO unmotivated to do anything this weekend. My parents were in kvegas all day Saturday and I was focusing on other things on Sunday. I guess I don't see much point in putting a lot of effort into something that I know isn't going to be good anyway. Thus, I couldn't even do 10, I only got to 8.

Facebook Illustration
So I had to go to redo this twice after the initial illustration in order to get this approved....took me a while but I think it looks pretty good.
