Freakin the F*ck Out

So I was having a nice weekend until I checked the blog.  Way to ruin a perfectly good Saturday!  Rusty, you really want SIX out of EIGHT assignments from the second half of the semester for our final portfolio?!  SERIOUSLY?!  I was thinking more like four or five.........well looks like I won't be having any sort of a life for the last weeks of school.  But I guess that's Truman.  So enough bitching for now and time to get to work.  I'm gonna die.

Rusty, I'm rusty!

Good Lord it's been too long since I've illustrated something by hand.....def need more practice.  I've been trying different illustrations to see if they will work for the Black History Month posters.  But I'm kinda peeved that we have to have a friggin concept......why can't Black History Month be enough?!  Pain in my ass......

Not Excited...

Black history month posters? Really?  Ugh.  Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against black history month, but it sounds a whole lot like the NAHM posters we did.  Why do we have to do the assignment again?!  Annoying!

Excited!

So I guess it's the good weather or something, but I am actually really looking forward to the rest of the semester.  I know there is a lot of work in store, but now that I know exactly what to expect, I feel like I can take on anything Rusty can throw at me.  Lets see how long this feeling lasts.....

So these times are not really that accurate because I feel like I spent my entire life dedicated to Vis. Comm. So to say that I only spent 110ish hours outside of class is a gross under calculation on my part.  But now that I understand what Rusty is looking for and why we did these time sheets in the first place, they will be more detailed for the final portfolio.  There are several other things that I need to do better for the final portfolio as well.  First of all, I need to spend more time on the initial design instead of spending my time doing 500 revisions of the same assignment.  Another thing I will do differently is my beginning process.  Most of the time I would spend a good amount of time researching (if necessary) and brainstorming ideas (which were usually pretty good and well thought out), but I wouldn’t spend enough time planning the space visually or actually creating the image.  I usually went straight to the computer without sketching or doing any comps.  Overall, it’s been a rough first half to the semester, but now that I know exactly how this process goes, I know what things I need to change in order to have an even better second half.

And here is a picture of my puppy, Baxter.  I have no reason to put this on here other than it makes me happy, just like having this damn portfolio done!

Portfolio-Detours Spread

So this is the only assignment in my portfolio that I didn't get approved.  I like how it turned out.  Simple but effective.  Budget-10 hours.  Time Spent-2.5 hours on the initial design (wow, under budget!) and approx. 2 hours on revisions.

Portfolio-Herpotology Poster

How many times did I do this poster?  Like a million.  I really like the concept though, and I think it is unique and unexpected.  And even though I hate having the word "wussy" on there, TWICE (thanks Rusty) I'm just glad it's approved!  Budget- 6 hours.  Time Spent- 4.3 hours on the initial design and approx. 7 hours in revisions.
